Report

The organising Authority for the trials was the New Zealand Team Racing Association.

The Chief Race Officer was Richard Brown from YNZ. There were five other members of the race committee.

The Chief Umpire was Ross May, there were five other umpires with six umpire assistants. The races were run in pairs of flights with three umpire boats per flight.

The format of the trials was three round robins in which each team sailed all the others three times changing boats every two races. Two rounds were held on Saturday and one on Sunday.

In all other respects the trials were based on the requirements of the ISAF team worlds.

Both NOR and SIs are available on the NZTRA web site.

The wind ranged from a low of 5 knots to a top average of 20 knots with brief gusts to 25.

Seven Teams were entered, the results were as follows:

  • Mahurangi X SYC based, 17 points
  • Weather Blacks KCC 16 points
  • Royal New Zealand YS 10 points
  • Mahurangi SYC 9 points
  • Whangarei CC 8 points
  • Bucklands Beach YC 3 points
  • New Plymouth YC 0 points

The race organisation was very fair and the results reflect the skills of the teams on the day. The two top teams showed a skill level which would justify their entry in to a world class team competition as reflected in the standards of the previous worlds.
