NZTRA MEETING MINUTES

MINUTES OF NZTRA MEETING HELD 31 MAY 2003 AT 7.50PM AT MANAIA LODGE, MCLEODS BAY, WHANGAREI

Present: Jim Murdoch, Derry Godbert, Ross Sutherland, Richard Brown, Hamish Murdoch, Kathy Clark

Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the previous meeting were tabled and perused. It was moved they be passed as a true and correct record.

Murdoch/Brown. Carried.

Matters Arising:

  1. YNZ Junior and Youth Committee – would like the relationship with NZ Secondary Schools to continue and would still like some input. It was agreed that this relationship should be encouraged and that a NZTRA delegate name should be put forward for nomination to the Junior and Youth Committee – possibly Jim or Ross. Richard is to investigate this further.

Correspondence

Inwards

  1. Kohimarama Yacht Club re expression of interest in running the 2005 NZ Secondary Schools Team Racing Champs. Jim to reply acknowledging receipt and notifying that that their letter is being considered.

Outwards

  1. To AYBA re formation of a base at Gulf Harbour Yacht Club and amalgamating their boats with NZTRA boats – no reply received as yet.

General Business:

  1. Gulf Harbour Co-ordinator – there was discussion on the option of employing a co-ordinator/manager at Gulf Harbour to liase with Auckland Schools with teams racing and use of 420 boats. Ross has offered to take on this position to get it underway. Richard need an indication from Auckland schools re their interest in being involved in this. It was aggreed that a nominal amount in Regatta fees would go to Gulf Harbour Yacht club. Ross is to contact schools for letters of support. Richard is to draft a letter of proposal from NZTRA to AYBA.
  2. Auckland Anniversary Weekend – It was proposed to hold theNZTRA Championship Regatta at Gulf Harbour Yacht Club. GHYC to be approached initially.
  3. Calendar – a draft calendar was discussed as follows:
    • NZTRA Ronstan Cup
    • Interdominion
    • Auckland Anniversary Weekend Regatta
    • NZSSTR Nationals
    • Interdominion – Secondary Schools
    • Trials for Worlds (not annual)
    • Auckland Schools Selection trials
    • Also possibly other regional regattas using GHYC.
    1. Establishment of Secondary Schools Sub-committee
    2. Gilly Oppenheimer expressed interest in being on this sub-committee.

      Membership – the issue was raised as to whether team members for Nationals need to be NZTRA members. Jim agreed to check the Constitution with Keith re election of schools sub-committee and whether sub-committee members need to be NZTRA members.

    3. NZSSTR Nationals Future Sponsorship
      • A report is being written for Maersk Sealand re sponsorship of 2003 Nationals.
      • Still awaiting confirmation from Maersk Sealand re future sponsorship
      • It was agreed that for future sponsorship, fees should not be lowered – any extra funds should be spent on plant and machinery i.e. umpire boats and storage, etc.
      • One idea for fundraising was running business house teams racing.
      1. Change of Balance Date – the current date is 30 June. This was discussed and it was agreed to leave as status quo, but to be reviewed at a later date.
      2. Committee – canvassing to be done for future committee members.
      3. Proposed date of next meeting &AGM – Thursday 14th August. 1800hrs at venue to be confirmed
