Chairman’s Report

2002 NZTRA Annual General Meeting held at Kohimarama YC 29th June

Thank you everyone for your attendance at the AGM.

I think very good progress has been made on achieving the goals that were set at last years inaugural AGM

When I came to write this report it has really surprised me what has been achieved in the year.

We are now an incorporated society and an affiliate of YNZ.

We have our own web site, which will be updated, as information becomes available.

We prepared and presented a successful bid to ISAF to host the 2003 World Championships.

New Zealand won a further World Championship in the Czech Republic.

In conjunction with all the clubs entered in the Ronstan we hosted an expanded and very successful event this year with nine teams entered and followed this up with the inaugural Open Inter-dominion against Australia where the top four New Zealand teams from the Ronstan competed against three teams from Australia which were represented by Queensland ,New South Wales & Victoria.

With underwriting from AYBA we were able to send Richard Brown (the race officer for 2003 Worlds) to this years Wilson Trophy in UK to further his experience for the forthcoming World Championships

Thanks to the efforts of Ross Sutherland the 420 fleet is expanding making it easier to host major regattas.

Organisation of the 2003 worlds is proceeding, some of the funding is already in place and major efforts are being made on a number of fronts to secure the balance. The exact facilities available to us to host the event are still under negotiation with ACVL & Ports of Auckland but hopefully near completion

Most of the key personal positions for the 2003 Regatta organising committee are in place however we certainly will need more personal to assist especially as we get closer to the regatta. I have been amazed at the very positive responses we have had so far. We are aiming for the 2003 Worlds to be a memorable event and I am sure everyone involved will have a great time.

Finally I would like to thank all who have assisted to make all of the above happen with special mention of the committee

Jim Murdoch
