Despite a wind speed at the high end of the scale for most of the weekend plenty of close trans-tasman racing eventuated as the 3 Australian teams from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne battled against the top four New Zealand teams, well prepared from the Ronstan Cup the previous weekend. A round robin sorted out the seeding for the final knockout series where two New Zealand Teams and two Australian Teams emerged in the top four positions. The knockout ensured plenty of close races between New Zealand and Australian teams in the best of three contests in the semi finals Australia One beat Mahurangi (2-0) and Kerikeri One beat Australia Two (2-0). This led to the ideal situation for spectators, a New Zealand v Australia final. Kerikeri One and Australia One had some exciting racing as Kerikeri One held off strong challenges by the Australia One team up the final beat to take the final (2-0). The regatta was extremely well run with heaps of racing for all teams, a good sign for the future.
